A fisherman travels downstream at full speed to his favorite fishing spot. The stream is running at a rate of 5 miles per hour, and the trip takes 2 hours to get to the fishing hole. He is surprised, however, to find that the trip takes 6 hours at full speed to get back to the dock when he is finished. How fast will his fishing boat go?
Let the speed of the motor boat in still water be x mph
Then upstream speed = x – 5
and Downstream speed = x + 5
Distance = speed * Time
Distances are equal
==> 2(x + 5) = 6(x – 5)
==> 2x + 10 = 6x – 30
==> 40 = 4x
==> 10 = x
The boat’s speed in still water is 10 mph.

Well yes an no. I have lived in Alaska and am a very avid ice fisherman (I currently live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan). Ice fishing there can be a major pain. Due to the extreme climate your going to need an ice shack or at least very warm clothes and a heater. Now…depending on what your fishing for dictates your gear. If your fishing for northerns and you can have…6 lines I think depending on the lake. Your going to want to buy a bunch of tip ups. If fishing for trout or burbot, a simple 28 – 32 inch medium action jigging rod would be a fine. St Criox makes a real nice one called an "Avid" for about 20 bucks. Also you will need an ice auger. These can run any where from 20 to 300$ for a good gas powered one. Also there is tackle, a skimmer, and the other odds and ends. I ice fish about 80 days a year and I think right now I have about 3000 dollars in gear. So if you wanna just go low tech you can spend about 100 bucks.
Rod and reel 40$
Auger 30$
Tackle 20$
That’s about as cheap as you can go. So to answer you no it is not cheap and easy.
I have some awesome spots to fish but like at least 1,000 fisherman fish there a year and its a small lake. they fish all sides during all seasons and Its hard to catch anything there. anyone have any suggestions as far as lure or tips? I know they have some big bass but I think there is just too much pressure to waste my time fishing there.
I change my times and aproach to how and when fishing the lake I am on which is a very popular heavily fished small lake.Over 33 boats on today and the lake is only 110 acres!
Fish slow!Lighter lines!Night fish!Mid day fish!Move deep!
I almost always catch fish on any lake anywhere no matter what!
I work baits more with subtleness and accuracy than just blind casting or try moving a lure fast so they have no time they just react!Yes I do agree as poster said finesse fish them I switch to my 4" thin worm no weight unless deep water fishing.And use a jig n pig deep water style!Go to life like lures buzz frogs scumfrogs……..!
By the way it would take a week to go through all the things but just pick out tip and fish it until you learn the try a new one and do the same…!

Have you ever heard of the liers banch, well I think I have the bench that can not catch a fish. My fishermen friends don’t believe that I caught a 10 lb trout. I had thought I had gotten it safely to the shore and it was gone. I had nothing to bring home even though I had all the bait, lures etc. They didn’t believe me.
I am not going fishing again. I guess my fishing days are over. I was talking with my friends there, here were I fish I was talking with them and they said "Your crazy and you don’t know what your talking about’. I said yes the trout was big and don’t you believe me. My friends laughed and said sorry you waisted you time with your tales. They ain’t my friends anymore. I was telling the truth. Why is it that when a woman talks no one believes we can catch a nice trout but if a man catches one it is a big thing. I will one day, I will fool them and get it to shore and shove it in their face. SORRY.
What is it with women that men don’t think we can fish?????
Hey all fisherpeople have a story about ‘the one that got away’. Yours just happens to be true! My favorite fishing partner growing up was my mom, today its my daugther. Don’t let anyone fool you, girls can do the same things boys can. If you enjoy fishing, then enjoy it and don’t let others sway you. Buy a cheap throw away camera (one with a flash) and keep it in your tackle box. Take a picture next time. In the meantime, enjoy the outdoors and catching trout!
